2 cups flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2 Tbs. shortening
1 orange, juice and grated rind
Some boiling water
1 egg, well beaten
1 cup walnuts, chopped
1 cup halved raw cranberries (or 3/4 cup dried)

Preparation:
Sift all dry ingredients together. In separate bowl, combine juice, shortening, rind and enough boiling water to equal 3/4 cup. Let cool. Add egg. Blend liquid into flour just until flour is moist. Add nuts and cranberries. Pour into greased loaf pan pushing dough into corners and leaving indentation in center. Bake in 350° oven for 60-70 minutes.
