Oatmeal Cake

Ingredients:

     Cake
1 cup oatmeal
1 1/2 cup boiling water
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
1/4 lb. butter, softened
2 eggs
1 1/3 cup flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. vanilla

     Topping
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cube butter
1/3 cup condensed milk or cream
1 cup coconut
1/2 cup nuts

Preparation:
Place oatmeal and boiling water in a small bowl. Stir with a fork. In a large bowl, mix together brown sugar, white sugar, butter, eggs, flour, spices, soda and vanilla. Blend well and pour into a 9 x 13 x 2 inch oblong cake pan, well greased. Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.

Prepare topping while cake is baking. Mix together sugar, butter, and cream. Stir in coconut and nuts. Spread on cake and broil under broiler until topping bubbles and browns slightly (a minute or two).
