Chocolate Chip Cookies (Toll House)


Ingredients:

Single Recipe
3/4 cup white sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup butter or shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. water
2 eggs
2 1/4 cups sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Double Recipe
1 1/2 cup white sugar
1 1/2 cup brown sugar
2 cups butter or shortening
2 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. water
4 eggs
4 1/2 cups sifted flour
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. salt
12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 cups chopped walnuts or pecans

Preparation:
Cream sugars with butter or shortening. Add eggs, vanilla, and water. Mix well. Add flour, soda and salt. Blend well then stir in chocolate chips and nuts.

Drop by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375° for 10 to 12 minutes.

History:
This is the original Toll House Cookie recipe that you will still find on the back of a package of chocolate chips.
