Crisp Butter Cookies

Ingredients:
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup powdered sugar
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 egg, well beaten
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Preparation:
Mix together butter, sugar, flour, tartar, and soda as for a pie crust. Then add the egg and vanilla. Roll in small balls and press flat with a glass dipped in sugar. Bake at 400° for 5-8 minutes.
