Ingredients:
2 cups heavy cream
1/3 cup buttermilk
Preparation:
Combine cream and buttermilk in saucepan. Heat liquids to 99˚ F – not hot. Pour into glass container and cover. Put this container in another and fill it with warm water to the level of cream. Let stand in warm place 12 to 36 hours until thickened. Store covered and chilled for up to four weeks.
Serving Suggestion:
Place fresh berries in a dessert dish and sprinkle with a little Grande Marnier. Add a spoonful of crème fraîche and you have a great dessert. This is one of my favorite desserts.
Variation:
A simplified version calls for 1 cup heavy cream placed in a jar. Add 1 tablespoon buttermilk. Put lid on jar and shake for one minute. Let mixture stand at room temperature for 8 hours or until thick.
If you can find it, purchased Creme Fraiche is great.
